A nuclear South Africa?Reader comment on item: Deterring Tehran Submitted by Ari (South Africa), May 11, 2006 at 06:48 Great article and certainly I agree with Mr. Pipes, the only way to move forward on the Iranian deadlock as it hurtles towards an inevitable show-down. However i found Mr. Pipes' assertion that South Africa (along with Brazil) is a "potential" atomic power rather curious. My understanding was that South Africa was the only country in history to have actually dismantled it's atomic arsenal? South Africa still operates nuclear powered submarines (recently upgraded with French vessels) and a nuclear power station in Koeberg?
