Could this be a prelude to war?

Reader comment on item: Deterring Tehran

Submitted by Peter J. Herz (United States), May 10, 2006 at 08:23

Ahmedinajad's letter to Bush may be a prelude to war. It seems to ask him to become a Muslim, and isn't there a hadith that calls on Muslims to offer enemies a chance to become Muslims before jihad is waged? This whole thing makes me feel queasy. After all, the Iranian president is steeped in beliefs that the time of the Mahdi is drawing near and comes from a tradition that takes pride in and points to Qu'ranic justification for violence against others.
