Saudia Arabia - no friend of the US!
Reader comment on item: [Saudi Arabia:] Not Friend or Foe

Submitted by Gary L Adler (United States), Nov 4, 2002 at 15:12

It's a mark of cowardice that our political leadership in this country can't admit to the idea that Saudia Arabia is no friend of the US.
We treat their authoritarian regime like a gas station, and they use us for protection - pure and simple!

Meanwhile, instead of promoting energy conservation to wean ourselves off of Arab Oil instead we become even more dependent - witness the popularity of the SUV.

Waiting on gas lines back in 1979 as an undergraduate convinced me that Oil comes from nations not friendly to the US - so all I've driven since has been small 4 cyl cars - currently a Dodge Neon, thank you.

Sept 11 should have been a wake up call - what else will it take?
