Facts: 1. The USA deals with PA. 2. The USA does not deal with terrorists. 3. Hamas is a terrorist organization.
Conclusion: if you don't want the USA deal with PA - let Hamas win elections!
It would be difficult for the USA to change their position towards Hamas. Of course, possible option for Hamas, in order to obtain US support, is to change its name pretending that the change is more than just a name. That would give them another decade or two of free spinning. Regardless, I think everybody's focus should be now on forming any form of real Palestinian government in Gaza. If Hamas would proclaim an "Islamic Republic of Palestine" with a "freely elected president" - that will be a beginning of the end of the "liberation" movement. It will a) indicate de-facto acceptance of Israel's existence and b) form a legal sovereign entity that would responsible for its actions to the entire international community. As a result - Israel gets a real, tangible enemy, not just a fuzzy group of terrorists to deal with and secures its rights to the West Bank (which is not even physically divisible in any way anymore, in my opinion).
Unfortunately, Palestinians seem to clearly understand that creating a real government is not in their best interest and will try to continue dragging this issue further and futher without final resolution.
