For once, change is good! It's about time some *real* academic criticism was brought to bear on Middle East Studies, as well as other subjects that lend themselves to political manipulation.
If those who teach these subjects can offer their opinions (to put it as gently as I can) to their students and others, surely their discipline should be able to take criticism and answer it appropriately, the same as any other discipline; and they themselves should be able to take criticism and account for themselves just like anyone else, without resorting to lies, avoidance of the subject, namecalling, ad hominem attacks and other nasty tactics.
These academics have a lot to answer for; and opposing voices must speak from outside, since they are not allowed on most campuses.
Blessings to Dr. Pipes and his staff for filling the void with this wonderful new Web site. I'll be watching!
