Prof. Dabishi's comments were typical of those who cannot tolerate being challenged on the actual intellectual merits of their scholarship. Rather than debate Dr. Pipes on the evidentiary merits of the arguments, he resorted immediately to the most childish form of name calling --"failed academic" or "charlatan."
Such tactics remain all too pervasive in the rareified air of contemporary history departments, where crackpot social theory continues to trump common sense and solid evidence.
My hat is off to Dr. Pipes for facing a true "failed academic" with such equanimity.
