Reader comment on item: Why the Paris Massacre Will Have Limited Impact
in response to reader comment: Iran or ISIS? No comparison.

Dr Pipes,

Iran could be a secular threat but it is not a suicidal threat like ISIS. Iran has nuclear ambitions primarily because of the dangerous Sunni enemies surrounding it (including one might add a nuclear armed unstable country like Pakistan) and not so much because of Israel.

Their strategy to curry favor with the radicalized populations of the middle east by appearing rabidly anti Israel hasn't paid off as much as the Ayatollahs had hoped. Iran might actually be slowly trying to back pedal without embarrassing itself via the nuclear deal and the West should make a honest effort to get Iran to get off the nuclear path without insulting it (honor is a big deal in societies like Iran). Its also worth noting that the two countries that are the most stable and likely to remain free from ISIS violence for the foreseeable future are Israel and Iran.

History will show that the West made a huge blunder aligning with so many radical Sunni countries instead of Iran.
