Reader comment on item: Why the Paris Massacre Will Have Limited Impact

Prof. Pipes:

Only one shard of disagreement with this otherwise accurately descriptive piece: voter frustration will be felt much earlier than "decades later"; in fact, currently roiling U.S. poltiics is the Trump phenomenon. Speculating on his prospects is worth less than even Fool's Gold, but that he articulates what "many" think is beyond doubt. The more interesting, but as yet, unanswered question is the extent to which his appeal crosses party lines. Also interesting is that unlike the EU, where ruling classes have successfully marginalized figures such as Wilders and Le Pen, that isn't true here: Trump remains center focus of national politics, despite the best efforts of both party's establishments.

I haven't a clue about Trump's political fate. But his constituents are not going away.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Trump will crash and his followers will feel frustrated.
