I largely agree, BUT . . .

Reader comment on item: Why the Paris Massacre Will Have Limited Impact

For Heaven's Sake! Merkel is not "right", never has been. She isn't even conservative. The Christian Unionists used to be Sacred-Heart-Socialists: Some time ago, they even dropped the "Sacred Heart" bit.

And I notice, Dr. Pipes, that you are still using the misleading and intellectually dishonest term "Islamism". There is just Islam. Full stop!

My third problem with this, otherwise excellent, article is the term "populist" applied to Geert Wilders. He is a classical liberal (in the European sense) who is just justifiedly worried about Islam. Just like you, Dr. Pipes. The term "populist" implies something shady, manipulative and right-wing. A populist tells what people want to hear. Wilders is telling what people do NOT want to hear.

That said, great article that hits the nail on the head!

Daniel Pipes replies:

In the German context, Merkel is "right," though I agree that's a pretty feeble term.

I call such figures as Wilders and Marine le Pen populists because they have leftist economic programs.
