Reader comment on item: Why the Paris Massacre Will Have Limited Impact

Submitted by Charles Martel (United States), Nov 23, 2015 at 02:32

In the United States, the electorate has been edging towards the conservative right since shortly after Obama's 2nd innaguration. With each Islamic blood bath, the trend was nudged further to the right. Now, on the cusp of the 2016 election year, it would be difficult to conceive of a scenario under which a Democrat will be elected to the White House. This is relevant for two important reasons. First, while presidents do not unilaterally dictate policy they have the ability to strongly influence how this Nation's bread and blood are spent. Second, if it turns out that Donald Trump is the Republican candidate, then the United States will evince a directional shift unprecedented in modern history.

Personally, I do not like Mr. Trump. He is bombastic and serially prone to attack those with whom he should be making common cause. However, I also believe our country suffers from a lethal cancer of political correctness. Perhaps Donald Trump can be thought of as a painful but urgently necessary chemotherapy.
