I have had similar suspicions since Reid was caught.Reader comment on item: Why Did American Airlines 587 Crash? Submitted by Aaron Kulkis (United States), Sep 13, 2004 at 19:21 I have had similar suspicions about this crash ever since a couple days after Reid was caught trying to detonate his shoe-bombs. I remember that the AA587 craft was reported to have crashed after the wings "folded upwards" as if there was damage had occured to where one or both wings' main spar attach to the fuselage. This alone indicated to me that there was some sort of sabotage or other deliberate destruction. It caught my notice that Reid was reportedly sitting where the wings attach to the fuselage, which would put him right where the main spar (a wing's "backbone" ) is secure to the rest of the aircraft's structural members -- and thus explained, to me at any rate, what happened to AA 587.
