ShockedReader comment on item: Hezbollah's Victory, Israel's Decline Submitted by Alex M. Bar-Elan (nee Berlin) (Canada), Feb 5, 2004 at 20:12 When I read of this *living terrorists for dead, dry bones* exchange, I was shaken out of my wits; yet I don't quite know why. Israel's decline as a fearsome regional power has been visible a long, long time, dramatically demonstrated in the rout-like evacuation of the Lebanese buffer zone.It may be true that the strategic necessity to hang on to it had passed. But there are political considerations. And why evacuate in a panicky manner of a defeated army on the run? Israel has lost it's planners, it's thinkers. Israel's LEADERS are gone and have not been replaced. Israel has a government and so-called politicians, but statesmanship it has not and leadership it has not and there is none on the horizon. Indeed, this is not the Israel that was. And Zahal is not the Army that was, the Army whose uniform I wore many years in them days that are no more. We, the voiceless, give thanks to you, Daniel Pipes, for telling it like it is. With Regards, A. M. B.
