Egyptian takeover of Gaza not an optionReader comment on item: Give Gaza to Egypt Submitted by Richard Webb (Australia), Jan 31, 2008 at 05:33 I cannot see why Egypt would want to take over Gaza: the Egyptians know the place is a cess pit and so would not want to have a bar of it -Egypt does not have enough problems already? Hamas would resist a takeover because that would undermine its powerbase, and the other Arab states would object - solidarity with the Palestinians etc. The other states would want to maintain the facade of support even though they know that the Palestinians are bitterly divided between Hamas and Fatah, and privately are exasperated with the way the Palestinians are behaving.
