Reader comment on item: [Saddam's] WMD Lies

Submitted by Dealton Lewis (United States), Oct 8, 2003 at 07:45

The premise of your article seems to be that Saddam Huessin faked the entire WMD program. The evidence that I derive from David Kay's report is that it was essentially 'idling.' That is the homework had been done, and everything was simply waiting for the opportunity to open the spigots and have new bio-chemical agents come rolling out of the labs.

In the mean time, no one has ever answered the question of what did happen to the weapons that were known to have been available, those floating around in the late 1990s. Were they simply dumped, destroyed as a part of the deception program, as they reached effective end of life and began to degrade? Were they shipped out of country? Or were there never any weapons at all - an assertion the Kurds and Iranians would categorically deny?

I agree that to castigate the Bush adminstration for having the same beliefs - Saddam has WMD - as the French is a bit over the top. Bush acted on his belief, the French opposed any action on theirs.
