but as much as I might agree with his well reasoned analysis of the consequences-sometimes in history, there are times when there is an imperative that becomes apparent and is only reinforced by analysis and understanding after the fact.
The second world war was such an event-an unavoidable catacylsm in which 50-60 million people died-mostly civilians. I'm not sure if mutally assured destruction that has maintained the status quo would work with a state that supports terrorism and the annihilation of an entire nation of people for idelogical reasons.
Diplomacy was notoriously unsuccesful in preventing World War 2. We must give sanctions a reasonable effort but not an unreasonable amount of time-because time is not on our side re Iran's quest for nuclear weapons.Our security analysis has been notoriously incorrect re the MidEast again and again and time is running out...
