Palestinian RefugeesReader comment on item: [UNRWA:] The Refugee Curse Submitted by Don Canham, Lt. NYFD Ret. (United States), Aug 26, 2003 at 21:50 It seems to me that the Palestinians have not had control of Palestine for over four centuries because they were always under the control of conquerors. I find that the refugee problem is ongoing. It is nothing new. The fact that after Israel was established as a state in 1948 and gave the Palestinians rights to govern themselves after the Palestinians and Arabs were beaten in war, not once, but twice. Five Arab armies were defeated and Israel took control of more land (spoils of war?).Why then do they continues to be consideered \"refugees\"? Where are they refugees from? Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt? Why don\'t they attend to their own land and grow things, make things and try to help themselves instead of groveling at the feet of the Arabs, the U.N. and the rest of the world? Israel is now building a wall between themselve and the influx of terrorism. It is no secret that the Arabs can\'t win anything because of their interminable backwardness. I believe that eventually they will have to either face up to the world and join in or eventually they will be destroyed. Cetainly not by the U.N. but rather a country or countries that are fed up with backward leaders and \"murdering terrorists.\" I believe that the wall will be a great deterrent to the infiltration of terrorism. The sooner that Arafat is killed or dies naturally will be the cause of much celebration throughout the free world. Other Arab nations will then see the handwriting on the wall. Either they join the twenty first century or face a similar fate. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
