Islam did not spread by the sword?Reader comment on item: Who was the Prophet Muhammad? Submitted by Jaisingh Thakur (India), Jul 11, 2007 at 03:15 To all those learned readers and scholars who contend that Islam did not spread by the sword, I would merely say that they are being both imaginative and inventive- their imagination that Islam is a peaceful religion and that in countries like India, Iran, Egypt, as indeed, in several other countries, it spread in a "peaceful" manner, would have been amusing had it not been for the fact that the cruel memories of genocide, whether of the Zoroastrians in pre-Islamic Persia, or the much-negated Hindu holocaust in India ,speak volumes of the "peace " that was sought to be imposed by the barbarians on the culturally advanced populations of these countries. Surely these readers would be able to answer one simple question of mine : " If Islam spread peacefully in Iran, then why were the Persians driven out of ancient Persia and what business do they have in India? surely they were not sent on a picnic, were they? " Friends !it is not necessary to invent history if the same is unpalatable to you and unpleasant to many of the other peoples whose lives were made miserable beyond words by your forefathers. Decency demands that you simply apologise for the mistakes of the past and resolve not to repeat them in future Jaisingh Thakur Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
