Reader comment on item: Television in Time of War

While there will no doubt be those who cry censorship, it only makes good sense to abide by the limited stricutres outlined by Mr. Pipes. This commonsense approach, unfortunately is not applied to other areas of security concern in the US, eg airline screening and the notion of profiling, irrespective of what happened in London. This is war and innocents may, on occasion, get caught in the crossfire.

There are those who will complain we are on the slippery slope; this is not a concern at all. Most of us understand what is at stake and recognize that unusual circumstances require unusual responses. Alterations in our approach to civil liberties need not be draconian or everlasting, they need last only long enough to accomplish the goal for which they were intended. This country, and indeed the whole concept of the west is under attack by islamism, make no mistake. And at the moment, I believe we are losing the battle. The goal is a long term one for muslims and its difficult to recognize by most in the west, we need to become sensitized to this reality and respond appropriately and accept this is going to be a long drawn out affair. Having Mr. Pipes educate the citizenry in an appropriate forum is one approach of reversing the trend, preventing our enemies from having free access to our media is another.
