better to appear than disappear

Reader comment on item: Television in Time of War

Submitted by Gordon Wiseman (Canada), Aug 2, 2005 at 21:26

The average viewer would benefit more from having you debate and expose Islamo-fascists for what they are than allowing the extremist to appear by himself or with a lesser opponent. While the network should obviously not invite a member of one of the more lunatic fringe and you might surely be justified not to appear in such an extreme case (as for example with Holocaust deniers as it only lends legitimacy to an otherwise perverse discussion), you ought not to miss most opportunities to expose these dangerous enemies of democracy and human rights. It is especially important to counter the disinformation in a public far reaching forum such as television where impressionable (and often ignorant and unsophisticated) minds are watching and which could otherwise be influenced by the unchallenged lies.
Sincerely. G.D. Wiseman, Attorney
