Odd obsession (and the Koreas)

Isn't it odd that successive presidents and the elites believe that peace is around the corner regarding Israel and the Palestinians (e.g. two different peoples with different worldviews, religions, and histories) but have never been especially optimistic or obsessed about Korean unification, where the people on both sides of the conflict are of the same ethnicity, language, etc. but are divided only by political systems?
