Israel, America's only strategic ally?

Reader comment on item: The Gods and the Arab-Israeli Conflict

Dr. Pipes (in his comment 05.06.09) errs in calling ,,Israel, America's only strategic ally in the region,,. Such an idiom would only confirm what the arabs say about Israel.

America's strategic allies in the region are (or can be or should be) Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt. For some time even Saddam Hussain was one (the US should have allowed him to keep Kuwait and then pressed him to become their man in the region in return. He was nasty and evil, but could have been used for something right. But US politicians (esp. of the republican party) lacked that cleverness. Presently ,,liberated,, Kuwait is heavily engaged in financing and spreading wahhabism in Pakistan).

Don,t reduce Israel to that low level. Besides that such terminology will only increase its endangerment through false identification.
