Convincing the Palestinians of the futility of their rejectionism:

Absolutely correct that Israel must aim for victory over the "Palestinians" by using force. That said, I was disappointed that Pipes did not once mention the fundamental role that Islamic doctrine plays in the conflict. The Palestinians are Moslems, and the sacred doctrines of Islam command Moslems to make war on the Jews and either subjugate them to Islamic rule, or to kill them. The Hamas Charter makes this all perfectly clear. This is not a "Palestinian-Israeli" conflict or even an "Arab-Israeli" conflict as it used to be called.

We are dealing with an Islamic religious jihad against the Jews. It is not a coincidence that Israel's deadliest enemy is The Islamic Republic of Iran which is not Arab, let alone, Palestinian. As Moslems, the Palestinians can never stop their rejectionism without violating the sacred commands of their god and their prophet -- and violating their loyalty to the Moslem world. Does Dr. Pipes ever think that the Palestinians will ever stop being Moslems?

Daniel Pipes replies:

I find it amusing to be lectured on the importance of Islam, having written two books arguing for the importance of Islam and Shari'a to understand Muslim public life.

That said, there are other factors in Muslim life beside Islam. In the case of the Palestinians, were they defeated by Israel, Islam would not magically prevent them from giving up, as it did do so in the other cases I cited.
