The waning of American influence

in response to reader comment: Commentary makes no sense

China is laughing all the way to the bank. American influence in East Asia, already on the wane, is now in full retreat. Obama was sincere about pivoting American interest to Asia, but the Middle East has its way of sucking up all the foreign policy oxygen. It'd be good to see the USA put up something of a fight, but it's so mired in its own domestic gorefest. As Jon Oliver said the election should be renamed Lice on Rats on the Corpse of a Horse on Fire 2016.
