The great Muslim trick

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God?

Submitted by Yldaed Suriv (United States), Jun 29, 2005 at 15:45

Whether Allah is the same God as everybody else's is in the end a question of belief which has absolutely nothing to do with science or rationalism. In my opinion, the more important question is why is this issue so important and who benefits most from the "Allah = God" equation? The answer is obviously the Islamists and all the radical Muslims living in the West. To them promoting the "Allah = God" equation is yet another diversion and convenient smoke screen that helps deflect uncomfortable questions about their religion. This is the "we are all the same" argument that helps indirectly in building an argument against Muslim profiling. Secularism and respect for other religions is not really a part of the Muslim psyche and this needs to be kept in mind at all times. In the West one can easily come across many freethinking Christians and Jews who respect and even convert to polytheistic religions like Hinduism or Buddhism while it is practically impossible to find a muslim who has converted to another religion.
Secular and liberal people are quite easy to identify and Muslims who condemn polytheism as an evil and also promote the Allah = God equation a the same time need to be viewed with suspicion.
