Birmingham AL is a rather large town. It has a medical school highly ranked. It has dangerous places like many bigger cities in America. I live in Huntsville. I don't worry about going to the environs of Birmingham.

Quoting 1951 behavior is not relevant. Most southerners born some time after the 1960s are not particularly racist. Racism exists today in Africa.

Come visit we have good Barbeque!
