Reader comment on item: Does Europe Have No-go Zones?

Submitted by Anton (Netherlands), Feb 3, 2015 at 07:29

I've lived in supposed Muslim-dominated zones in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In Rotterdam muslims make up about one quarter of population. It was all right. No Sharia law, no alcohol bans, no pork bans, just a normal neighborhood. Cheap rent and halal butcher shops actually have it's perks. There is another similar neighborhood that had higher crime rates, but it had been cleaned up in the past 10 years. By our dear muslim mayor. There are some problems there, yes. But it's really not so much about religion as it is about poverty and some failed immigrant integration policies as well as bad city development plans.
