Quote Regarding Chile 1970 Reference

Reader comment on item: A Neo-Conservative's Caution

Submitted by Pamela Beck (United States), Apr 4, 2005 at 11:04

"Carnage would be considerable and prolonged, i.e. civil war...You have asked us to provoke chaos in Chile...we provide you with formula for chaos which is unlikely to be bloodless. To dissumulate U.S. involvement will clearly be impossible." ~ Top Secret CIA Santiago Station cable, October 10, 1970 (as excerpted in "The Pinochet File: A Declassified Dossier on Atrocity and Accountability" A National Security Archive Book By Peter Kornbluh).

If Santayana proves prophetic that, "those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it" then, I too, worry that "...neo-conservatives are insufficiently focused on its implications."
