Reader comment on item: A Neo-Conservative's Caution

Submitted by D Sag (United States), Mar 9, 2005 at 16:09

Although I am a staunch supporter of Israel and also a fan of Mr Pipes - I do not believe that the "Neo-Conservatives" or whatever you want to call it - wing of the current administration has any idea what they are doing and in fact are creating more problems for Israel than they are solving. I am a social liberal and I strongly oppose the war in Iraq and indeed any "preemptive" war. I think the current climate in the middle east and in particular the goings on in Palestine and Lebanon have nothing to do with Mr. Bush and his cronies.

The fact of the matter is if it were not for the death of Mr Arafat and Mr Hariri - none of this would be occuring.

We need to promote healthy dialogue between Israel and the other powers in the Mid-East if we are ever to see the end of Arab-Israeli conflict. This means getting tough on social policy - not just flexing our muscles militarily. We need to confront states like Saudi Arabia about the state sanctioned demonization of Jews and Westerners and the list goes on....

No democracy in the middle east will help if all the states become new Irans.

Let us stop glorifying our absolutely cluless president for things he had nothing to do with.
