Reader comment on item: A Neo-Conservative's Caution

Submitted by Scott Adler (United States), Mar 9, 2005 at 15:30

The term "neo-conservative" originally meant "a former liberal mugged by reality." The context was the Cold War (World War III) and 50,000 Soviet tanks and academic historical revisionism to support the Soviet cause. It had nothing to do with banning abortion, ruining Social Security, or preventing those in credit card hell from declaring bankruptcy (check the back pages of your daily paper). It now includes those who are concerned with Islamist expansionism and another wave of historical revisionism to support that cause as well. It is a shame that Neo-Conservatism is being used on one hand as an excuse for an absurdly reactionary domestic policy on one hand and as a sub-text for "Zionist Occupation Government" on the other.
