Reader comment on item: [The Search for Moderate Islam:] A Reply to Lawrence Auster

It does not really matter if we call it "decent" or "moderate" Islam because whatever the label, Western civilization is up against the reality of what is not in question...and we can agree on the label: "Fecund Islam." At present birth rates and without drastic changes in government policy Muslims of any and all beliefs--killers or kind-- will surely overwhelm first Europe and eventually North America. It may take a few more generations in France and it will take much longer here in the U.S, but as the expression goes: "do the math!"

Holland is just waking up to this reality after the brutal murder of Theo van Gogh. A few other nations are beginning to wiggle their necks while their heads remain deeply buried in sand.

We need to answer the much larger question if Islam of any kind can ever be compatible with Western civilization? If you strip away the Euro-cowards reminiscent of "there will be peace in our time," and get past any politically correct sentiment the answer is clear and the future frightening.

Let us quickly acknowledge or at least hope that the majority of Muslims are "decent" or "moderate" (take your pick) but benign Islam is still the potting soil for Islamism despite any best intentions to the contrary.
