Women's sexuality being a threat is not proper to Islam

Reader comment on item: Female Desire and Islamic Trauma

Submitted by Avi Elnekave (United States), May 25, 2004 at 12:29

Since biblical times the woman has been considered as the seductress. in any patriarchal society women were treated as inferiors in order to protect the "weak" man from their "spell". During the victorian era in Europe sex was vilifyed and repressed. For over four centurires this was the situation in the West, until the "Feminist revolution" that took place in the early years of the 20th century. We need to be very careful and intellectually honest and not to blame Islam for the rites and mores described in your article. However, one needs to bear in mind that the "Feministe Revolution" did not yet reach the Islamic culture in general although ther are signs in many arab countries showing that this "revolution" is on its way even though quietlly.
