Dear Dr.Pipes,

I agree with every single word written by you in your excellent article. However, apart from mentioning the dreams nursed by the likes of bufoons like Shariatmadari and others of his ilk, you have not stated how such small states like Bahrain, or, even Kuwait can escape the tragic fate of falling prey to the evil imperial ambitions of their more powerful neighbours.

I am sure, vested interests will be quick to point out your article as one more instance of inducing security-related paranoia in the minds of the rulers of Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and other states of the region as may face the threat of being preyed on by their imperialistic neighbours. And why would an eminent intellectual like you ever do such a thing at all?

The same critics who support islamic terrorism and would do anything to promote it in all parts of the world will have a ready-made answer to this : why, of course to promote the sales of the U.S. defence industry to these smaller states ! Although how, in the ultimate analysis you stand to gain from this transaction is likely to remain answered by these stooges of islamic terrorism.

As regards the brave, self-sacrificing state of Israel, it is well capable of defending every inch of its sacred territory even when the entire Arab world is hostile to its existence, as it has so amply and honorably demonstrated in the past. What, however, remains in doubt is the ability of a small state like Bahrain to withstand Iranian imperialistic dreams, especially given Iran's nuclear capability. Also in doubt is the willingness, if not the ability, of the U.S. and the West to intervene in the region given the false and stupid allegation of being anti-islam that the islamic world finds it convenient to level against them.
