It may not only be the alcoholReader comment on item: Muslim Taxi Drivers vs. Seeing-Eye Dogs Submitted by Geoffrey Lewis (United States), Feb 22, 2007 at 01:26 Dear Dr Pipes, Five years ago I wrote a letter to The Oxford Mail after it reported that a blind woman was refused to board a taxi with her dog. I said the Muslim jurists are agreed that trained dogs who perform a function to humanity - sheepdogs, hunting dogs and watchdogs - are exempt from the condemnation of dogs in general. Guide dogs for the blind are surely exempt. I quoted verse 4 of Surat al-Ma'ida. My letter was published and that was the end of it. Are guide dogs allowed in Muslim taxis in the USA as well as in Oxford UK? Yours Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
