Revisiting The ArabistsReader comment on item: What Riyadh Buys [in Washington] Submitted by Linda Staitz Cooke (United States), Dec 11, 2002 at 15:56 Dr. Pipes,Thank you for another thoughtful, knowledgeable and consistently well written article on this subject matter. I note that you favorably reviewed in the WSJ "The Arabists: The Romance of the American Elite" by Robert Kaplan several years ago. In reading this article I noticed the name Hume Horan. If I remember correctly, Kaplan refers to Horan being recalled from his diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia because the Saudi royalty were uncomforatable with the fact Horan spoke Arabic too well. A very telling observation on Kaplan's part. Linda Staitz Cooke Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
