You asked me why I believe that book is false and why you should not read it? well, I will give you a two approach answer. There are two things you have to consider: Capitalism and the Old Testament.

CAPITALISM

Why did Bart D. Herman write this book? Why now? Why not ten years ago? Let me give you the answer. The Da Vinci code written by Dan Brown is a world wide best seller. Selling 40 million copies. That book is a fiction based on a gnostic belief that Jesus was married and had kids. Dan Brown made it clear that his book is a work of fiction, never the less is still racked in ten's of millions of dollars. Do you think that success went unnoticed by other writers? No? Recently Dan Brown was sued by the authors of a book called holy blood holy grail. They accused Brown of plagirazing their work and asked for financial compensation. Although their case was rejected, but everyone can see that these guys were motivated by money. They writting such sensational stories there is money to be made. After Brown released the "Da Vinci Code" which was a huge success, other authors started to write all sorts of nonsensical stories about Jesus hoping they can make a killing like Dan Brown. Bart D. Herman is one of these authors. Hoping to get rich by writting unprooven stories about Jesus's life and teachings. This is capitalism 101. Basically using the same formula that made someone else millions for yourself. Why not? If Dan Brown can make millions by selling his fictitious story why not Herman. This is typical capitalistic thinking, one does not have to be a genious to see that.

The Old Testament

The old testament contains a lot of prophecies. Among them are those about the life, mission and nature of Jesus. All the major events in Jesus's life are prophesized in the old testament. His birth, His ministry, His crucifiction and resurection. All these can be found in the old testament. When an author make a claim about Jesus that cannot be backed up by the old testament, one has to be very skeptical about it. That is the case with all these authors who are writting these unprooven and baseless stories about Jesus. If you read their books carefully you will see that their claims are based on conjectures and suppositions. If someone claims something about Jesus that was not prophesized about him in the old testament, then that claim is false. That's the case for Brown, Herman and all the rest of them.
