Allah or God

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God?

Submitted by Muhammad Arif (United States), Jul 19, 2010 at 14:08

As-salaam--Alikum (peace) to all my Muslim and Non-Muslim brothers and sisters here. One must understand language barriers when people translate things. Arabic word for God is ILLAH, and I believe Hebrew also has same word "Illah" for God they may write it differently but sound is same. In Arabic when you add "AL" which means "The" to a noun it is used for emphasis e.g; (Al-rajal) the man, The God, The president, not a president or a god, because then you are deviating from monotheism belief by saying a god of many. Similarly when you combine "Illah" god with AL it becomes Allah (The God). Now if one says Allah or says The God he or she is referring to same deity. I hope I was able to clarify to my Non-Muslim brothers and sisters here that we pray to same GOD as you do if you beleive there is only one God. You may call him by different name but fact remains he is the God we all pray to. Christianity, Judaism and Islam have so much in common yet we all fight on non important issues like by what name I call The God and extremist from all sides try to exploit it. Let us have an honest debate and resolve our issues peacefully. Arguing about the name of the deity I worship and name of deity you worship is not even an issue. I am sure in Spanish, German and every language you can think of probably has different name for God but that does not mean English God and Spanish God is different and most them are Christians too.................
