Yes, Conflict Can Be Averted

Reader comment on item: Muslims in the West: Can Conflict Be Averted?

Submitted by Allison Khan (United States), Apr 17, 2006 at 00:26

The authors do not appear to believe in God. If you believe in One God and pray to the one God, of course conflict is avoidable.

Muslims, conservative or otherwise, do not need the Islamists to protect them from Americanisms. God is a jealous God, it says in the bible. He does not want us to associate partners with Him. If I think that an Islamist is going to protect my Islam, I am no longer relying on my God for help. Then I am not following my own prayer Surah Fatiha, "Thee Alone do we worship, and Thee alone do we implore for help."

Daniel Pipes is very bright and politically aware, but I think, and I could be wrong, that this one tenet of Islam eludes him--the oneness of God--because it is shared with Judaism.

My mother-in-law, an Ahmadi from Pakistan, went to a Jewish doctor in New York. She refused to have heart surgery until he promised to pray for her. She didn't know that he had become athiest, in his heart. Finally, he came to her room and told her he had prayed for her. Her surgery was a success. Afterwards, he left money for her in an envelope--500 or 1000 dollars. What for? Because she had renewed his link with his God.

Allah humma, "My God" is a complete prayer when you are in trouble, because He is your God and you belong to Him and He belongs to you. It is a relationship.

Pray, Daniel Pipes. Pray for your people and my people that there is no conflict, because if Einstein is right, World War III will lead to a world without our present luxuries.
