Response to LeventReader comment on item: Symposium: Turkey: The Road to Sharia? Submitted by mam (United States), Apr 12, 2006 at 17:02 Levent makes a tremendously revealing Freudian slip in calling Guenter Lewy's book on the Armenian Genocide "Disputed Suicide," since that is apparently the most desirable explanation for the disappearance of 1.5 million Armenians from their ancestral lands. They weren't exterminated: They killed themselves! Frankly, this makes as much sense as the explanations that Lewy adduces in his book.As for Lewy having "no leaning towards genocide denial" -- surely Levent is being humorous. Lewy has already written a book that denies that the Roma ("Gypsies") were subjected to genocide and a lengthy article that denies that the Native Americans were subjected to genocide. Guenter Lewy is a professional, serial genocide denier. He also has no knowledge of either Turkish or Armenian and relied on unidentified sources to provide him with Turkish materials. As for the Hitler quote, its authenticity has been well-documented by Dr. Kevork Bardakjian of the University of Michigan in the book Hitler and the Armenian Genocide. Levent may or may not be "a brainwashed Turk" but whatever his or her excuse, he or she needs to do some homework.
