Reader comment on item: Symposium: Turkey: The Road to Sharia?

Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), May 6, 2005 at 18:30

What are France and Germany trying to do to my beloved Europe? Turkey's entry in the EU will mean the end of 2,000 years of European history.

Where does Tukey fit in the European cultural spectrum? It doesn't. Turkish secularism doesn't exist, and we will soon welcome millions of Radical Islamists into Europe.

Turkey is not Europe. Letting Turkey join Europe is wrong from every possible angle you look at it. It is a beautiful country, I know.

Turkish food is excellent and the people are warm and welcoming. It is not about them.

It is just that Turkey is not Europe. Most Turks are into Radical Islam.

Then, there are problems to do with immigration and the economy.

I would be terrifed if a European country adopted Sharia.

It is not that I don't like Turks. I love Turks. But, what about their anti-Americanism and their support for Radical Islam and Sharia?

What about the Armenian Holocaust? Jewish readers should not be offended if I use the word Holocaust, because 1 million Armenians got killed.

Millions of Turks will soon enter my beloved Europe.

I don't mind. But what about terrorism? Social services?

I value Turks and I love their culture, their food and their music.

I just don't think that Turkey belongs in Europe.

Shame on France and Germany for destroying my beloved Europe.
