Reader comment on item: Symposium: Turkey: The Road to Sharia?
in response to reader comment: Turkey as a member for EU?

So you think you can understand why we Greeks hate you... Well can u understand this: http://noyunan.tripod.com/ Because I can't. Who's being imperialistic? Whenever a country in the Balcans is becoming hostile to Greece, Turkey supports it. What you probably don't understand is that your "mehods" are not effective.

As far as the 500 years that we were ruled by the turkish emperors are concerned... There is no complex at all. Do you know why. Because when Alexander the Great conquered the whole known world, he also conquered peoples souls. So nowadays, there are villages in India whith residents who proudly call themselves Alexander's ancestors. So how on earth did you manage not to really conquer a nation, after ruling it for 16 generations?!?!?!? That doesn't make me feel ashamed, but, on the contrary, it makes me feel very proud of the greek soul!

So, if I want Turkey in the EU? No! But not for the reasons you may think. I've been to Konstantinoupoli. I met some nice people (Two girls in a restaurant, let me and my boyfriend sit at their table because there was no place to sit down and they even treated us food and baklava..!). I don't want my neighbours in the EU, so that they can maintain their identity and their turkish soul. Being part of a union seems to me like being consumed and swallowed by it.

I wish we could establish good neighbourhood. It all seems to me like..."divvying-and-ruling". And I think it's always been about "divvying-and-ruling" our nations, don't you?
