GREEKS IN A HISTORIC SENSEReader comment on item: Symposium: Turkey: The Road to Sharia? Submitted by ZACH (Canada), Feb 11, 2009 at 22:04 Yes the Greeks held out for many years in Anatolia against everyone....you name it...Turks, Persians, Arabs, Huns....bring it on. But greeks have been the ultimate barbarians! We greeks are not necessarily a warlike race....except for a few exceptions..Sparta. However , we used diplomacy, treachery and war to conquer all. Alexander was to greeks a hero, but to others an invader. the great Byzantine Generals up to 14 century used treachery all along. The Seljuk/Ottoman turks were one of the few asiatic tribes that settled in Anatolia and somehow hung around....every other turkic peoples was destroyed or enveloped by Greeks. When Greeks slaughtered Turks in the 18 19 century,,,,,they were wiped out in several weeks, even having to bring over Arabs from Egypt to help the out. In the 1920's, Greeks proceeded to slash their way through Turkey...killing anyone and anything in site...trust me i have family who told me this. I am as GREEK as you can get...Laconia...Peloponese..Sparta (Modern City). We greeks tend to see things through a tunnel.....at least some of us. Peace to the world.
