What in heaven's name made "Daisy" think I was "making excuses for Israel?" I repeat:

If you are right that France's reaction will be relief and appeasement when it's all over, then Villepin will be France's next president. If you are wrong, and France's reaction is hard-boiled fury, their next president will be Sarkozy. Neither Sarkozy's name nor his philosophy sounds very French, but it seems hardly likely that France will be amused at having 300 cities and all within them, torched, ransacked, virtually destroyed.

On the rioters' side, it is said they suffer 40% to 50% unemployment. That results heavily from the Muslim refusal to be integrated into French society, accept western ways, western education, find a way to fit into western civilization. Perhaps there is some comparison to the Jews who came to America, mostly in the 1890's but wanted to stay together and retain their culture.

There is a great difference, however; the Jews brought trades with them, street peddlers, tailors, diamond cutting, small businesses, an understanding of finance, all of the elements that go to make up western civilization, and however much some wanted to and did cling to sequestration in Orthodox Jewish communities, on the whole they fitted in very well. They were ready to cut their own cloth, make their own way, do their own thing. It appears the Jihadists of Europe do not want to fit in; they just want to take over. The Jihadists simply want to make over Europe to their own image.

It's going to make for a very interesting century. I dare say Michael Chertoff of Homeland Security is taking due note..
