A view from France

Reader comment on item: Reflections on the Revolution in France*

Submitted by Thomas (France), Nov 10, 2005 at 00:45

Hi,

I am a French student in UK, currently on holidays in France, and I obviously know very well the situation in my country.

First, I have to express my fear of seeing France being given without resistance to a bunch of scums. This is reality. The media here dont WANT to merely say what is happening. As an example, we have been told three days ago that our TV will not talk anymore about the riots (or just to say the minimum). Our journalists consider that it would incite the rioters to act even more violently.

There have been two men KILLED by some rioters. What you maybe don't know is that those rioters are extremely racists. It is not the first time that a man is killed by a gang of six or more young vandals.Once more, the media dont accept to say that this is racism.

BUT, the two delinquents who found death in a electric warehouse (I dont know the exact name), in which they had trespassed reportedly being afraid of the police, just started the wave of violence because they were from a foreigner's family.

Our politics received the families of the two young boys, and I am ok with this, BUT they didnt say anything about :
- The two men who were killed by the scums (beaten to death !)
- A bus driver, woman, who lose her baby (she was pregnant), when the vandals burned her bus !
And, obviously, there are other stories that we just hear in very short statments, or not at all !

Something else has to be said. Something "funny".
We have a lot of politicaly oriented programs on TV. In one of them, there was a video taken during a riot. We could see some rioters throwing stones and molotov cocktails, and, as they were shouting something that we couldnt easily hear, the subtitles were "Sarkozy (our interior minister) fascist !".... Well, in fact, if you listened attentively, you could hear that they were shouting : "Sarkozy DIRTY..... JEW !".
Here is the link :
http://media.putfile.com/French-riots
The subtitles version is : "Sarkozy fasciste !"
What you can hear is : "Sarkozy sale juif !"

Can you believe it ? I am sad for my country. And our politics just are collaborationists, a lot of them.

Forgive me for posting a so long message, but, I had to say it. And thanks to you, and to Internet.
(PS : Two famous anti-riots websites have been blocked on our major internet providers today)
