The recent sniper attacks should not become the norm

Reader comment on item: [Beltway Snipers]: Converts to Violence?

Submitted by David Thomson (United States), Oct 26, 2002 at 16:03

The United States does a splendid job of melting its diverse cultures and ethnic groups. Eventual assimilation is virtually certain. Most Muslims eagerly wish to acquire an affluent lifestyle and are willing to tolerate their non-Islamic neighbors. Few are likely to convert to a nihilistic true believer ideology. The German-American Nazis and the Japanese-Americans loyal to the Emperor represented a small minority. The same should hold true for today's American-Muslim population. Am I overly optimistic? I sure hope not.

PS: it's also interesting to see that there is another David Thomson who shares my overall views. I doubt if we are related, but perhaps we should be.
