Well Sheikh al-Azhar believes that pregnancy can last for up to four years because this is what the Islamic literary sources tell us about Muhammad

However the truth is we really do not know much about the historical Muhammad as was proven about 100 years ago by Henri Lammens and more recently by John Wansbrough

So how about Muhammad's massive biography? Lammens believed that it is no more than exegesis of the Qur'an and nothing is historical about it and it is all Qissas or stories of fiction that were meant to explain what that opaque revelation (the Quran) is saying

Wansbrough believed that it is "Salvation history" or pious fiction

So what is really the problem with reconstructing the life of Muhammad? The answer is the Islamic literary sources are unreliable late very tendentious and no more than pious fiction

This is why I feel that only fools the likes of Karen Armstrong will write a biography of Muhammad

I hope I helped
