Muslim cool dudes should take note.

Reader comment on item: Philadelphia's Burqa Crisis
in response to reader comment: Religious injunctions must also be subject to the golden rule.

Dear Dr Pipes,

I might have written about this on your blog before also so please forgive me for repeating myself. One thing that particularly disturbs me about veils is when I see a Muslim cool dude man on a city street on a hot summer day in normal western clothes while one or more female companions of his are all wrapped up from head to toe in burkhas, niqabs or hijabs. I find it at best insensitive and at worst anti-women.

Though I was always disturbed by it, I was never sure how bad it really was for the women who were culturally indoctrinated to willingly or unwillingly cover themselves from head to toe.

I recently found the following question on the popular quora site. The questioner inquires how it feels to wear a burkha. The responder below tells in no uncertain terms that it does not feel very good. Rather than me quoting from the page below, I invite all your readers to read it first hand. It will be eye opening:

So, dear Muslim cool dudes, please take a note. If you love the women in your life, allow them to get some fresh air and ask them to discard the veil. Allah will be pleased. Or so I think.
