The forcible removal of Israeli citizens from Gaza by Israel may be unprecedented. I don't know.

Did this not arise from the use of settlers as a means to annex land that is also fairly unprecedented amongst modern democracies? Because the settlements were instruments of land acquisition, when the decision was made that the land was undigestible there was little choice but for the government to remove them.
