Israel is no superpower, despite what the anti-Semites say, which means that she cannot just ignore her neighbors' intentions. Getting recognition is a necessary step in order to build confidence if there is to be any let-down in Israel's guard and if she is to cease being a pariah or Mideast ghetto.

What Yair Lapid might have said was that his father did not come from the Budapest ghetto just to see his progeny murdered on account of their naivete.
