Contra Islam

Reader comment on item: "You can't fight Islamism with ideas coming out of Europe"

Submitted by William East (United States), Dec 3, 2010 at 17:36

Dear Mr. Pipes,

My simple point is this: In order for an internal peaceful reformation of the practice of Islam to succeed the koran itself must also be reformed and reformed to the degree that it must be edited. There will be huge chunks of redacted entries throughout the text, otherwise the very mandates that justify punishments and brutalities and slavery and child rape and racial and religious bias will remain in force. Recognizing that any part of the whole of the koran is invalid casts doubts on any of the remaining parts. This adjustment will not happen in a dozen lifetimes. I did find it interesting to discover that the first burning of thousands of copies of the koran was by the command of an umma in order to "correct" the clear contradictions and "omissions" in the originals. Funny that the text wasn't "Holy" before but that it is now.
