Even the Israeli press is mercilessly demonizing and mocking Lieberman, to the point that it is hard for the average Israeli to get any real analysis. The Israeli Left (of which the Israeli media is a subset) has used him as a bogeyman since he was chief of staff for Netanyahu's PM office the first time around, and they have succeeded in making the American Left (of which the American media and, sadly, American Jewry are largely subsets) swallow that spin whole.

If anything, Lieberman is to the left of the Likud, disregarding the bluster of his election campaign rhetoric. Let us not forget that he was a member of the left-wing Kadima government that has finally been sent home.
